Keytakes Privacy Policy

Privacy first. Your data stays on your device by default. Cloud processing is only used with your explicit permission and solely for generating summaries of your content.

Information we process

Keytakes processes the following data entirely on your device:

  • Audio and video files you import
  • Text content you provide
  • Generated transcriptions
  • AI-generated summaries and extracts
  • Application preferences and settings

Only when you explicitly enable cloud-based summarization, we may process:

  • Text content for the sole purpose of generating summaries
  • Transcribed text (never the original audio or video files)

How we use your information

All primary functions of Keytakes operate on your device:

  • Transcription using Apple's Speech framework
  • AI summarization using on-device language models
  • Content search and organization
  • Data synchronization via your iCloud account

When you choose to use cloud-based summarization, text is sent securely to our servers for processing, returned to your device immediately, and not stored permanently.

Storage and security

Your data is stored locally in the application's support directory and, if you enable iCloud sync, in your iCloud account.

When using optional cloud features: all transmission uses HTTPS, HMAC authentication ensures integrity, and no data is permanently stored on our servers.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.

Your content is never shared except: when you explicitly export or share it yourself, for optional cloud processing as described above, or if required by law (in which case we will notify you unless prohibited).

Your controls

  • Use all core features without any cloud connectivity
  • Choose when to use cloud-based summarization
  • Remove any content from the app at any time
  • Enable or disable iCloud sync through System Settings
  • Export your data in various formats

Third-party services

Keytakes integrates with Apple's Speech, iCloud, and FoundationModels services. These are governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify users through the app.
